Assam Orthodox F.T.G.F.O.P Golden Tips ‘Breakfast’ Tea

Assam Orthodox F.T.G.F.O.P Golden  Tips

Assam in North-East India is, along with China, one of the only two areas in the world with native tea plants – Camellia sinensis var. Assamica.

The discovery of the local tea dates back to 1823 and is associated with the name of Robert Bruce. Generally sold as “breakfast tea”, of course within Assam teas we will also find top-orthodox (full leaf) tea, with a nobility and richness that can compare with Darjeeling Teas.

This Assam tea is a mainly black whole leaf tea with some Golden Tips (Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe), grown in the lowlands at sea level in the valley of the Brahmaputra River, an area of clay soil rich in nutrients.

The taste is full, with hints of ripe fruit and malt aroma and distinctive, sparkling, orange to copper-coloured brew.

assam 3

Rich and malty with a beautiful copper tone…

It is therefore a fine morning tea and can be drunk with milk and/or sugar whilst still retaining its full body and flavour.

The best Assam teas are, with some exceptions, harvested in May or, at the latest, in early June.

Organic Guranse Handrolled First Flush SFTGFOP

tea harvest 1Organic Guranse Handrolled First Flush SFTGFOP

The finest of the Guranse Teas, hand rolled tea is very rare in Nepal (unlike China , Korea etc), with low production resulting in only 30-50 kgs of tea made each year. Only the best leaves are picked before being hand rolled.

The National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia (NASAA) has awarded the Organic Certificate to Guranse Tea in the Year 2000.

The Organic Guranse Handrolled FF SFTGFOP is characterised by classic himalayan first flush characteristics:
-the dry tea (pre brew) is good looking with a fgood amount of silver tips.
-the brew is light and bright with dominant flowery and fruity (citrus) tones/nose.
-the aftertaste is ‘brisk’-sharp and alive.

Nepali Earl Grey

Earl Grey220px-Bergamot fruit
A light black tea flavoured with natural oil obtained from the peel of the bergamot citrus.

According to a legend – gifted to a British Prime Minister, the 2nd Earl Grey, in the 1803 from a Chinese nobleman as a gift for saving his son.

This Nepali style Earl Grey also carries the characteristics of classic Himalayan teas; light, bright, noble and full bodied without the heaviness of classic Assam/Ceylon Earl Grey.

As a base our blend uses well prepared second flush tea from the Illam region in Nepal, with full high mountain tea characteristic-fresh, bright, noble, which is perfectly balanced with the bergamot oil.

Wonderful and refreshing with or without milk any time of the day.

Great also with chocolate desserts or used for creams and sauces.
